A LinkedIn & SlideShare Success Story

Posted on June 24, 2012 by Wayne
slide share example #2I love success stories. A sales professional who attended one of my world famous beginner LinkedIn classes told me his Monday morning voicemails included a message from a potential customer who loved the company slide show he’d seen on his LinkedIn profile and was anxious to set up a meeting.

.

I don’t know about you, but I’d sure love to start my Monday mornings with a few messages like that! If you’re not in direct sales, just insert who your most desirable contact would be: a potential employer, a donor for your nonprofit, an employee to fill your job opening, etc.

.
The moral of the story is make sure you take advantage of the #1 LinkedIn branding Application: SlideShare.
.
I have been using SlideShare since my beginning days on LinkedIn to share videos, pdf documents, and, of course, PowerPoint presentations. Many people have commented about checking them out. Several people said they watched my promotional video and immediately signed up for my LinkedIn training class as a result.
.
You, too, can get these kinds of results.
.
Here are some ideas to get you thinking about how you might use it to your advantage:
.
  • Company product/service presentations
  • Video of one of your installation crew explaining the care he takes in doing his job
  • Video resume for job seekers
  • Testimonials from donors, benefactors, customers, etc.
  • A “how to” checklist

.

Be sure to check out your own website for resources and tools you have already developed, and, of course, don’t forget to check out your competitors’ websites for other ideas as well.

A few other thoughts you might want to consider:

1.  As you can see in the example above, you can post multiple presentations, videos, slide share example #1etc., but it can be more eye-catching if you use only one. You have to decide if you need to share more files to tell the complete story or whether one will have greater impact. This is an example of my current SlideShare, and I think it really grabs people’s eyes as they view my profile.

2.  You can move the entire Applications section of your profile (which may only include your SlideShare) to a higher position in your profile for more impact.

3.  Be sure the first slide in your presentation is a real grabber, so the reader can’t help but flip through the presentation.

4.  Here is a link to a video from LinkedIn explaining how to add SlideShare to your profile: http://learn.linkedin.com/apps/slideshare/

What do you have posted in your SlideShare on your LinkedIn profile? I would love to hear your ideas.
